ALPWAM
The African Initiative for Law and Policy on Waste Management (ALPWAM) was founded to address this governance gap. As a legally registered non-governmental organization in Uganda, ALPWAM envisions a future where legal empowerment, inclusive policy-making, and grassroots action converge to ensure environmental justice and sustainable development.
what you should know
Africa is at a pivotal moment in its urban and environmental trajectory. Rapid population growth, expanding cities, and industrialization are generating unprecedented waste volumes. Yet, legal and policy responses remain fragmented, outdated, or weakly enforced. Communities especially the poor, youth, and women bear the brunt of mismanaged waste systems.
